Indo-Pak clash! With Mohali match around, police wants people to show sportsmanship

Three days ahead of World Cup semi-final between the arch rivals Indian and Pakistan in Mohali, the police and administration in Kashmir want that the people and security forces should accept the outcome of the match with the spirit sportsman¬ship and should not resort to tension like situation.
In past it has been witnessed that emotions remain high when¬ever there has been a cricket match between India and Pakistan and the Kashmiri has proved ardent supporter of Pakistan cricket team.
Last Wednesday when Pakistan defeated West Indies the “jubilant fans” burst fire-crackers however, the fans in turn had to face the wrath of CRPF troopers who alleg¬edly got provoked by the crackers.
There were reports from Old Sri¬nagar city that many a youth were beaten by the para-military troopers after they burst fire crackers when Pakistan defeated West-Indies.
Tension in Old city was also wit¬nessed after India defeated Austra¬lia and CRPF troopers were seen bursting the fire crackers.
SP North Srinagar City Showkat Sarwar told Kashmir Times that people should not resort to tension like situation. “The people should show spirit of sportsmanship accept the out come of match. The people and security forces should desist from bursting crackers and must not create tension ,” SP said.
Showkat said any body found creating any unhealthy situation would be taken to task.
Inspector of General (IG) of CRPF, B N Ramesh told Kashmir Times that his force would not be allowed to do any activity that creates prob¬lem. “I will issue advisory that no soldier indulges in such an activ¬ity that creates problem between the forces and people,” he said add¬ing the most of the CRPF troopers would not be able to watch the match. “They have to perform their duty and there is little time for them to watch the match,” Ramesh said.
District magistrate Srinagar Meraj-ud-Din Kakroo said that people must show the maturity. “I will consult SSP Srinagar and after that steps would be taken to ensure that peace is not disrupted,” he said adding security in such mat¬ters “values”.
Here it needs a mention that in valley, be it a school, businessiness establishment or government office the pros and cones of the Indian and Pakistan semi-final is being discussed.
